Massac County State's Attorney Patrick Windhorst has announced his candidacy for Illinois State Representative for the 118th District.

Windhorst is a Republican, and announced his candidacy Tuesday at Fort Massac State Park.

Windhorst was raised in the district and graduated from Massac County High School and Shawnee Community College. He earned a law degree with honors from SIU, and has served as State's Attorney for 12 years. He lives in Metropolis with his wife, Holly and two children.

On his website, Windhorst said, "Southern Illinois has its challenges, but now is not the time to throw in the towel. It is time to get into the arena and fight. I’ve been fighting for over a decade to keep my community safe as a state’s attorney. I’ve been serving you by getting justice in the courtroom and putting violent criminals behind bars. Send me to Springfield and I’ll get some justice for us – for Southern Illinois."

The statewide office is currently held by Democrat Brandon Phelps of Harrisburg.
