A West Frankfort man was killed Friday evening after crashing his motorcycle.
According to Illinois State Police, at 9:19 pm Friday 36-year-old Mark Holtz, of West Frankfort was riding a motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed on Orient Road just south of Carr Road. Police said Holtz was unable to negotiate the curve near the intersection with Carr Road, and ran off the road into a ditch. Holtz was thrown from the motorcycle.
Holtz was initially taken to Herrin Hospital, and was later transferred to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Police said he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Police said Holtz was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
