A Cairo man who pleaded guilty in March to a botched bank robbery that left two women dead and another injured will be spending the rest of his life behind bars.
James Watts was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court to life in prison without the possibility of parole on a charge of attempted armed robbery resulting in death. He received an additional 10 year sentence after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Watts fatally stabbed 52-year-old Anita Grace of Olive Branch and 52-year-old Nita Smith of Wickliffe, Kentucky during an attempted robbery at First National Bank in Cairo on May 15, 2014. He also stabbed 23-year-old Kaeley Price, who survived and called 911.
Watts has been held without bond since his arrest in May 2014.
