A Saint Louis man and child were hurt Saturday evening in a three vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County.
According to the Illinois State Police preliminary report, at 6:24 pm Saturday all three vehicles were traveling northbound on Interstate 57 near milepost 95 in Jefferson County. The driver of the first vehicle, a 39-year-old St. Louis man, lost control of his vehicle on the snowy roadways and collided with another vehicle driven by a 24-year-old St. Louis man in the right hand lane of traffic. The impact caused the first vehicle to travel back into the left hand lane of traffic where it was then struck by a semi driven by a 54-year-old man from Mayfield, KY.
Police said the 39-year-old St. Louis man sustained major injuries in the crash. He was initially taken to Crossroads hospital in Mt. Vernon, and later to Barnes hospital in St. Louis. A child passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to a regional hospital.
Police have not yet released the names of the crash victims. More on this story as information becomes available.
