A Southern Illinois airport is receiving $3.2 million in federal funds for construction of a new terminal.

The grant for Williamson County Regional Airport in Marion was announced Tuesday by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and U.S. Rep. Bill Enyart, both Democrats.

The money is from the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program.

The airport offers eight daily flights from Marion to St. Louis. The current terminal is more than four decades old.

"Having access to reliable air service is essential to growing businesses that create jobs in Illinois,'' Durbin said.
