An overturned tractor-trailer at the eastbound Metropolis exit on I-24 caused delays for five hours.

According to the Massac County Sheriff's Office, the semi rolled over shortly before 6 a.m. just past the exit on the eastbound side (between the exit and the Ohio River Bridge). One lane of traffic was able to get by the scene earlier, but once tow trucks arrived to upright the trailer, police began using the emergency lane on the shoulder to guide traffic around the accident scene. Other drivers used the Brookport Bridge and US Highway 45 to get into Paducah.

According to the report, 69-year-old John Thomas Conway was traveling east in a semi when he ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and overturned.

Conway was cited for speeding. Police say the scene was cleared about 11 am.
