River Traffic Resumes at Lock and Dam 52

Locks and Dam 52 near Brookport has reopened to navigation traffic on the lower Ohio River.

According to the Army Corps of Engineers, river levels returned to levels that allowed for locking just after midnight on Friday.

As levels continued to drop into Sunday, project staff were able to inspect the wicket dam and properly configure it for operation. 

The wicket dam will remain up until river levels require it to be lowered. Then Army Corps divers can enter the water behind the rock dike that has been constructed on the Illinois side of the river and make repairs.

That work will continue until water levels rise beyond safe working conditions.
