The Cave-In-Rock Ferry has resumed service, since flood waters dropped off KY 91 at the Kentucky landing Wednesday morning.

Service was forced to stop on February 22 as waters rose on the Ohio River.

During flooding, almost all of the signs were damaged or destroyed on the Kentucky approach, including those that warning drivers they were approaching the river landing.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel and ferry employees spent most of Wednesday morning clearing debris from the roadway, replacing signs, and getting the landing ready for service to resume.

The Cave-In-Rock Ferry connects KY Highway 91 with Illinois Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County, KY, and Hardin County, IL.

The ferry normally operates from 6:00 am to 9:50 pm, 7 days a week, and carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River in an average day.

The ferry is operated by an independent contractor with joint funding from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Illinois Department of Transportation through a ferry authority.
