The Illinois special prosecutor's office says in a report released Wednesday the case involving Molly Young will remain open, and that that office empathizes with the Marion woman's family.
A coroner's jury already had ruled there wasn't sufficient evidence to determine whether Young's gunshot wound to the head was a suicide, homicide or accidental.
Young's family protested the decision not to prosecute and asked for an independent review.
Young's father, Larry Young, says he's upset the family was not notified about Wednesday's report before it was made public.
