The incident at Maple Grove Elementary School where an employee was struck by a bullet was an accident, according to authorities.

On Thursday, Illinois State Police told West Kentucky Star the investigation is closed, and no foul play is suspected. A spokesman said police believe the single round that struck the employee had traveled a considerable distance, and they don't believe it was fired at the victim.

On April 5, an employee was struck by the bullet about 1:00 pm, prompting administrators to lock down the school. By 2:30 pm, buses were bringing children to a rendezvous point where parents could take them home.
