The (Carbondale) Daily Illinoisan reports that Jackson County's governing board has enlisted two consultants to nominate the county courthouse in Murphysboro to the National Register of Historic Places. A state committee must first approve the nomination.
The 87-year-old building was built after the deadly Tri-State Tornado in 1925. Its current problems range from burst pipes and mold damage to crumbling tuck-pointing.
