Moderate Flooding Continues at Cairo, Olmsted

Flood levels on the lower end of the Ohio River are falling slowly, but it is still at moderate flood stage after runoff from last week's heavy rains.

At Cairo, the Ohio River crested last Thursday at 49.46 feet, and five days later has receded only slightly at 48.7 feet. Flood stage at Cairo is 40 feet.

Upstream at the new Olmsted Dam, river levels have held mostly steady around 44 feet since last Wednesday. Tuesday's level showed moderate flooding at 43.6 feet. Flood stage is 36 feet.

The Paducah riverfront gage has been steady around 41 feet since Wednesday, and currently reads 41.5 feet with minor flooding. Flood stage at Paducah is 39 feet.

The Mississippi River is recovering a bit more rapidly at Cape Girardeau. After 37.5 feet there last Wednesday, the Mississippi has fallen to 33.8 feet currently. Flood stage at Cape is 32 feet.

Downstream at Hickman, the Dorena-Hickman ferry was still out of service as of Saturday due to high water.
