A mistrial has been declared in the murder trial of an Alexander County man.

KFVS-TV reports that court documents show a jury declared a mistrial in the case of 30-year-old Chauncey Hughes, Jr., who was accused of shooting his wife in November 2013 during a domestic dispute.

Hughes was facing murder charges for the death of his wife, 22-year-old Heather Davis, who also went by the names Heather Davis-Hughes and Heather Hughes.

Cairo Police responded to the 35th Street home on November 1, 2013, and found Davis had been shot, and Hughes was gone. She was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, in Cape Girardeau where she later died from her injuries.

Hughes turned himself in a few days later.
