A Massac County teen was arrested Saturday on multiple charges after an incident on local streets.

Metropolis police said they saw an SUV leave the intersection of 7th and Butler Streets at a high rate of speed, and run a stop sign at 6th and Butler. The officer turned on his lights and siren to pull over the vehicle, but was ignored, and the SUV ran another stop sign. When the driver stopped at 700 East 5th Street, the officer asked him to get out of the vehicle, but the driver began to back into a driveway instead. The officer pulled 19-year-old Steven J. Youman of Metropolis out of the car. Police say Youman's breath smelled of alcohol, and an open container was found in the vehicle.

Youman was arrested for DUI, attempting to flee or elude police, illegal consumption and possession of alcohol by a minor, no insurance, no registration and other traffic charges.  He was taken to the Massac County Detention Center.
