The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for southern Illinois on Wednesday, with the chance for about a half inch of frozen precipitation possible from Johnson County northward.

Light snow, sleet and light freezing rain in southern Illinois this morning will transition to a rain-snow mix for most of the afternoon and evening.

Most of western Kentucky should see mainly rain. However a brief wintry mix cannot be ruled out, especially in northern Livingston County and Crittenden County including Marion. Any accumulation would be mainly on grassy areas since surface temperatures are above freezing.

Snow and sleet accumulations from one half to one inch are possible from along the Route 13 corridor, westward into southeast Missouri.

Just south of there into the Shawnee National Forest, westward to Cape Girardeau, minor icing is possible on elevated surfaces.
