Fall trout fishing season begins Saturday, October 19 throughout Illinois.

Local trout fisheries in southern Illinois include Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis; Ferne Clyffe State Park in Johnson County; and Jones State Lake Pond in Saline County.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has already been at work stocking 67,000 rainbow trout across the state, but no trout may be taken from any of the stocked sites until the season officially opens at 5 a.m. on the 19th. The actual opening time of individual sites may vary.

Anglers must have a valid fishing license, and an inland trout stamp. Exceptions are children under 16, anyone who is blind or disabled, or an Illinois resident on leave from military duty.

The daily limit is five trout.

Information about licensing is available at the link below.
