According to Illinois State Police, a car driven by 46-year-old Paul E. Price, lost control near mile post 38, crossed the median, and struck a semi-truck driven by 38-year-old Thomas F. Griffey.
Price, and a passenger, 43-year-old Courtney D. Baxter, were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. Griffey was evaluated on the scene by EMS, but refused additional medical treatment.
Price was charged with driving too fast for conditions, and failure to reduce speed.
