The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a flood warning for a portion of the lower Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, affecting areas in southern Illinois, western Kentucky and southeast Missouri.

The warning currently affects the Illinois counties of  Alexander and Pulaski; Kentucky counties of Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman and Fulton; and Mississippi County in southeast Missouri.

Due to abundant rainfall over the past several days across portions of the lower Ohio River, water levels will continue to rise with minor flood conditions developing at Cairo, Illinois later this evening.

A crest is expected early this weekend.

Flooding is also occurring along smaller rivers in Missouri and Tennessee.

More heavy rains across the region this weekend will only exacerbate flooding problems. Stay tuned to NOAA weather radio for updates.
