U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois announced Tuesday that Marion is one of ten communities in the state that will receive a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
The grant allows these agencies to obtain much-needed equipment, vehicles and training to serve the public. Over $1.1 million was awarded this year.
The city of Marion will receive $55,429 to benefit their operation and safety.
Nine other agencies will also get grants ranging from $3,410 to $150,640. Since 2001, these grants have provided approximately $7.1 billion to first-responder organizations around the country.
