A Metropolis woman was arrested Friday on unrelated charges, after police say she admitted to knowing about counterfeit money being used in the area.

The Metropolis Police Department says an officer stopped a vehicle on Oak Street to investigate possible counterfeit $20.00 bills being passed to various merchants in the area. The driver, 44-year-old Denise Gilbert of Metropolis reportedly admitted to having knowledge of the bills. A computer check revealed that she was wanted on a Massac County warrant for possession of a controlled substance. Police said Gilbert also did not have a valid driver’s license.

Gilbert was arrested for driving without a license and for the previous warrant.  She was booked into the Massac County Detention Center. Police say more charges are possible.
