A burglary suspect knocked on the wrong door in Metropolis Thursday night, and it cost him.

Metropolis Police say an officer heard an alarm at the Dollar General Store on West 10th street, checked it out, and found a window kicked in.

Police say they saw a suspect on video, and put out a description. A few hours later, a man matching the description knocked on somebody's door and asked to use the phone.

That door belonged to Metropolis Chief of Police Harry Masse. Oops! 32-year-old Joshua D. Richardson of Metropolis is charged with burglary and theft, police say he's also wanted in Wisconsin for a parole violation.
