An agreement has been reached with employees of the Honeywell plant in Metropolis.  Employees at the plant have been on a work stoppage for months.  Peter Dalpe, spokesman for Honeywell, issued this statement:

“The company is pleased to have reached a tentative agreement on a new, three-year contract. The union has indicated that its membership will vote on the proposed contract on Wednesday or Thursday. At the request of the federal mediator who assisted in the bargaining this week, the company is not commenting on the specific terms of the proposed contract at this time, except to say that we are hopeful the agreement will be ratified.”

Below is the news release from federal mediators:

Allison Beck, acting director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, today announced that with the assistance of federal mediators, a tentative settlement has been reached between Honeywell’s Metropolis Works and the United Steelworkers Local 7-669 in Metropolis, IL, potentially ending a work stoppage that began August.2, 2014.

The work stoppage has affected a nuclear fuel production facility operated by the company in the Illinois community. FMCS had requested that the parties return to the bargaining table with federal mediation on March 18.

Working under the auspices of FMCS mediators, the union and employer reached a tentative agreement after many hours of intense talks. Ms. Beck commended FMCS Director of Mediation Services Peter Cheng and FMCS mediator Chris Alford for their roles in bringing both sides together in the bargaining.

“We are extremely pleased that we were able to help the union and employer overcome their differences in these challenging and complex negotiations,” Ms. Beck said. “Representatives from both sides were willing to put in the long hours that were required, and ultimately they were successful in reaching a mutually acceptable agreement. This is a result of their hard work and their commitment to the process.”

The tentative agreement is subject to ratification. As is agency practice, the FMCS will not comment on the substance or content of the agreement or negotiation.
