A southern Illinois man was sentenced to 50 years on Friday, three months after he was found guilty on murder charges in Johnson County.
Larry Cavitt of Goreville was sentenced to 25 years, plus 25 years for firearm enhancement after a murder trial in Johnson County. Cavitt faced two first-degree murder charges and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
Cavitt was accused of killing his half-brother, Joseph Geyman with a gun during an argument in 2021 at a home on Dutchman Lake Road.
Authorities said the two men, who lived next door to each other, argued over the COVID-19 vaccine before Cavitt allegedly took out a handgun and shot Geyman in the head.
