Shots fired in Mayfield park; groups from Paducah suspected

Police are investigating shots that were fired in a Mayfield park and on a street on Saturday.

Mayfield Police first got the call about shots being fired in Eddie Williams Park. Officers said it was reported that two groups were shooting at each other. When they arrived on the scene, they found vehicles with what looked to be bullet holes, and shell casings on the ground.

The description of a vehicle and its license plate number were uncovered, and police said they found the vehicle about an hour later on West South Street, where there was another report of shots being fired.

The vehicle was stopped and the occupants were questioned. Two guns were allegedly found in the vehicle, and a juvenile was charged with possession of a handgun by a minor.

Police said they believe the two groups shooting at each other were from around Paducah. 

Anyone with more information about the incidents is asked to call Mayfield Police or West Kentucky Crime Stoppers. Kentucky State Police are also investigating.
