Paducah woman arrested on criminal child abuse charges

A Paducah woman was arrested Wednesday on three counts of criminal abuse of chidren under 12.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office, with help from the Henry County, TN Sheriff's Office took 27-year-old Darian Scheffer into custody.

Back in December, McCracken County investigators were notified by the Benton County, TN Sheriff's Office that an alleged sexual assault had occurred in McCracken County.

During that investigation, Gregory Scheffer was arrested for multiple sexual related charges including rape, criminal abuse, incest and sodomy.

As the investigation continued, detectives learned Darian Scheffer left her children alone with Gregory Scheffer for extended periods of time.  

The children allegedly would tell Darian of accounts of physical abuse occurring in the home, but she continued to leave the children with him.
