Paducah native Steven Curtis Chapman has been invited to be the newest member of The Grand Ole Opry.

Chapman was invited by another Kentucky native, Ricky Skaggs, during a performance at The Opry on Saturday night. According to a post on Chapman's Facebook page, the first time he performed at The Opry was when he was 19 years old.

He said, "I’d grown up listening to my dad tell me stories about this magical stage where some of the greatest moments in music took place. When the weather was just right we could tune it in on our staticky AM radio in Paducah, KY, and hear the magic happen."

The magic happened Saturday for Chapman as his long-time friend Skaggs invited him into the circle.

Chapman said he was blown away at the invitation and thanked God and everyone.

"To the many many people who’ve been a part of the journey that led to an amazing moment last night…Thank you!  And to the Giver of every good gift…Thank you for yet another moment to “Taste and SEE how good you truly are!"

It's far from the first time Chapman and Skaggs have come together, as they've never forgotten where they are from. They, along with Kentucky Christian music artist Jason Crabb, Restless Heart frontman and fellow Paducah native Larry Stewart performed a benefit concert in Paducah for victims of the December 10th, 2021 tornado. The event raised over $200,000.

Chapman's official induction date has not yet been announced.
