Kentucky State Police have released more details on the barricade/officer-involved shooting case in Murray.

KSP said that Murray Police were called to a Johnson Boulevard home on Thursday, August 22nd after a crisis hotline tipped them off to a person threatening to harm themselves. Police contacted the man in the home, identified as 39-year-old Matthew Johnson. Johnson allegedly pointed a rifle at the officers and then barricaded himself inside. That is what moved Murray Police to call in the Special Response Team from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.

In the meantime, warrants were sworn out for Johnson's arrest on charges of wanton endangerment and terroristic threatening. SRT deputies and Murray Police attempted to negotiate with Johnson, even utilizing a crisis hotline but to no avail.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Friday, August 23rd, SRT used a gas to force Johnson from the home. He fired his rifle at them, striking SRT deputy  Jacob Hamm in the arm and the leg. KSP said that Marshall County Chief Deputy Tim Reynolds, Sergeant Aaron Lane, and Deputy Chris Beavers all fired back at Johnson striking him. Johnson, however, did not come out of the home and still refused to cooperate.

Johnson did finally surrender. He was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment. Deputy Hamm was treated and released from Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

KSP is continuing to investigate the incident.

Marshall County deputy injured in shooting in Murray

A deputy with the Marshall County Special Response Team was wounded in an incident with a barricaded subject in Murray.

Murray Police said they were called to a residence in the 1300 block of Johnson Boulevard at about 10 p.m. Thursday to conduct a welfare check on an individual. When they arrived, they were met by that individual and he was brandishing a gun. After pointing the gun at officers, he barricaded himself in the home. Murray police obtained a warrant for the man's arrest and called the Marshall County Sheriff's Office for assistance.

Marshall County sent their Special Response Team to the scene at about 11 p.m. When they reached the address, the man in the home fired at them and hit one of the SRT deputies "multiple times." Deputies returned fire, wounding the suspect.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. The suspect, meanwhile, was flown to a hospital for treatment.

Murray Police and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office both said that they would not be releasing any more information on the incident. The investigation has been handed over to Kentucky State Police.
