Worker At PIR Hit By Race Car; Driver Arrested

A race car driver is behind bars after police say he hit an employee of Paducah International Raceway with his car.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, just before 10 pm on Friday, deputies responded to the incident at Paducah International Raceway. Deputies said 38-year-old Jason Wallace of Paducah, was operating a yellow colored dirt track race car on the racetrack when it struck a track worker, identified as 54-year-old David K. McCracken of Benton.  

Deputies say David McCracken suffered serious physical injuries and was transported to Lourdes Hospital by Mercy Regional EMS. He was later airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for further treatment of his injuries. 

Wallace was subsequently arrested and charged with operating a motor Vehicle under the influence of alcohol, 1st offense aggravated, as well as assault 1st degree, a class B felony. He was booked in to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
