A woman who pled guilty to prescription drug fraud in September was sentenced last week.

According to the McCracken County Circuit Court Clerk, 54-year-old Lisa Kaylor was sentenced by Judge Tony Kitchen on Wednesday. She had pled guilty to 33 counts of obtaining or attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud.

Kitchen sentenced Kaylor to five years on each count, with sentences running concurrently, and then probated the sentence to three years.

Kentucky State Police had searched the doctor's office where Kaylor works last summer after getting a tip about forged prescriptions. She was arrested in March after a grand jury heard evidence and returned indictments against her.

Kaylor's attorney, Emily Roark, told West Kentucky Star that numerous motions for probation instead of jail time were filed in the case by well-respected citizens on her behalf. Roark also said evidence was presented at sentencing indicating that Kaylor had an abusive husband who may have harmed her or himself if she did not provide him with the drugs he wanted. Kaylor is no longer in the relationship. Roark said very specific information about Kaylor's situation was shared with Judge Kitchen before he announced his sentence.

The attorney said Kaylor has never before been in trouble with the law in her life.

Roark said the doctor has continued to employ Kaylor, but in a position where she cannot write or order prescriptions. At the time of her arrest, Kaylor was also an employee at the McCracken County Jail, but resigned that job soon after.

In order to stay on probation and avoid jail time, Kaylor must continue not violate the law, undertake drug screenings, and report to probation officers as required.
