A Paducah woman was arrested Thursday night on drug and DUI charges after deputies say she drove the wrong way, nearly causing a head-on crash with a sheriff's cruiser.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says a deputy was traveling northbound on US 45 South shortly after 10 p.m. when a southbound vehicle approached in the wrong lane. The deputy was able to swerve to avoid a head-on collision, and pulled over the vehicle.

Deputies said the driver, 39-year-old Raygan Thompson, was under the influence of drugs. They reportedly found Xanax pills in Thompson's pocket, for which she admitted not having a prescription. Deputies said they found more prescription medications during a search of the vehicle.

Thompson was arrested and booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail. She's charged with aggravated DUI 1st offense, 1st degree wanton endangerment, 1st degree possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of  a legend drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
