Paducah Police Department's prescription drug investigator John Tolliver learned that 34-year-old Tiffeny Marthrel of Ohio Street might have filled prescriptions for hydrocodone from multiple doctors. His investigation revealed that Marthrel allegedly went to two different doctors on successive days and got prescriptions from both of them, which she immediately took to pharmacies.
When Tolliver presented this information to a McCracken County Grand Jury, they returned an indictment, charging Marthrel with attempting to or obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. She was arrested Wednesday afternoon and taken to McCracken County Jail.
Police said Tolliver also learned from a local clinic that 33-year-old Rachel Gonzalez of Bell Avenue may have tried to fill prescriptions before they were valid. He investigated with the pharmacy, who had notified the clinic because it appeared the prescriptions had been altered. Police say the clinic confirmed that the prescriptions had been changed so they could be filled earlier than intended.
A grand jury indicted Gonzalez for forgery of a prescription for a controlled substance. She was arrested Wednesday morning, and taken to McCracken County jail.
A person at the jail Thursday said both women had been released on bond.
