According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, the accident happened shortly before 3 pm in the 7000 block of Kentucky Dam Road just east of the Highway 62 and 68 intersection. Deputies say 79-year-old Shirley Smith of Calvert City came into contact with pooling water on the roadway, causing her to strike the vehicle of 32-year-old Ryan Green.
Both vehicles left the roadway. Green's vehicle came to rest on the shoulder, and Smith's vehicle ended up in a grassy area.
Green and Smith were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Green's passenger, his young daughter, was in a child safety seat and was not injured.
