Two people were arrested on drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop early Monday morning.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office says deputies stopped a vehicle shortly after 12 a.m. on John Puryear Drive for an equipment violation. When deputies activated their emergency lights, someone reportedly threw a loaded handgun out the window of the vehicle. Deputies said the driver, 27-year-old Charles D. Ahlfield of Hickory was driving under the influence of illegal drugs, and had a suspended license.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found ammunition and drug paraphernalia. They also found meth on the passenger, 41-year-old Angela D. Thomas, also of Hickory.

Ahlfield and Thomas were arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail. Ahlfield is charged with possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, DUI 3rd offense, driving on suspended or revoked license, failure to produce insurance card, and rear license plate not illuminated. Thomas is charged with possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
