Interstate 24 in McCracken County was shut down Tuesday evening when a semi hauling propane caught fire near the Illinois state line.

The fire occurred about 5:15 pm, and the eastbound semi quickly became fully engulfed in flames. Emergency personnel closed traffic in both directions from the Ohio River bridge to Exit 4 and kept traffic at a distance because of the truck's load of propane.

Traffic was restored in the westbound lanes by 7 pm, and the scene was cleared by about 9:30 pm.
