Two local residents were arrested on drug charges Monday evening following what started out as a routine traffic stop.

McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies pulled over a truck driven by a 17-year-old West Paducah juvenille for having expired registration plates. Deputies were speaking with the occupants of the vehicle when they noticed the odor of marijuana eminating from the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led deputies to find 5.5 ounces of marijuana, a set of digital scales, and $888.00 in cash.

The juvenile was charged with trafficking in marijuana less than 8 ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, and other traffic offenses. The juvenile was released into the custody of his father.

The truck's passenger, 19-year-old Corey Leonard of Paducah, was charged with trafficking in marijuana less than 8 ounces (2nd offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
