James Luke McGee, Paducah Tilghman junior, has been named a Centre Fellow in Centre College’s merit based scholarship program.

Centre Fellow candidates must rank in the top 5% of the junior class, must be enrolled in a strong college preparatory curriculum, must have at least a 28 on the ACT, must exhibit outstanding citizenship in the school and community, and should possess a sincere interest in a liberal arts and sciences education. McGee was nominated by Paducah Tilghman High School.

Centre Fellows receive a $20,000 minimum guaranteed scholarship per year at Centre College. Centre Fellows are eligible for additional merit awards.

The Centre Fellows Scholarship Program’s aim is to recognize and reward some of the nation’s brightest, most involved young people.
“James Luke has worked diligently to lay his academic, extra-curricular, and service foundations while at Tilghman,” said School Counselor Rebecca Rogers. “He knows the importance of academic rigor and conscientious involvement in activities that are meaningful to him. To be acknowledged, recruited, and rewarded as a junior by a fine institution such as Centre College is quite an accomplishment.”

McGee is a member of the National Honor Society, the Future Problem Solvers team, and the Tilghman tennis team. He is active on the McCracken County Teen Court and at the First Baptist Church of Paducah. In addition, he volunteers in the gift shop at Baptist Health Paducah. He is the son of Laura and Raymond McGee.
