Once again, the annual Summer Harvest food drive was a "huge success."

Wendy Cooper of HollandStivers & Associates in Paducah said they were excited with the amount of food collected for the food pantry at Paducah Cooperative Ministry.

"This year we wound up with about 4-1/2 truckloads, so the way we calculate that, I think we wind up with about 6,000 items," Cooper said.

Cooper said they were able to coordinate with PCM to let people know what the pantry needed most.

She said, "They got a lot of diapers this year, a lot of noodles and spaghetti sauce, tuna. That was a big, big difference, as far as filling their shelves with what they actually needed."

Cooper said family food bills can double or triple during the summer because children aren't eating meals at school. This usually means more folks come to area food pantries for help, so their shelves get depleted quickly.

The company asked their clients and other friends in the business community to collect food between May 29-June 2. They either brought items to the HollandStivers office on Olivet Church Road or called for them to come pick it up.

Individuals could participate this year by donating food at local Kroger Stores on June 2. Cooper said that new opportunity did a lot to increase the total amount of collected food.
