In a Tuesday press release, McCracken County Sheriff Matt Carter says one of the major hurdles his team has faced in light of the pandemic has been a lack of professional development training offered through the Department of Criminal Justice. The pandemic has caused many of their training opportunities to be cancelled over the last couple of months.
Carter shares that due to a generous donation from the McCracken County Sheriff's Foundation, his deputies will now have access to an "exciting and very functional training platform" at no cost to the taxpayer or the McCracken County Fiscal Court.
Going forward, the McCracken County Sheriff's Office will be partnering with PoliceOne Academy to provide virtual training to their deputies. Carter says much of the training has received national certification through the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement. The partnership will provide over 400 courses to McCracken County deputies, including the following:
• Anti-Bias Training for Law Enforcement;
• Cultural Awareness and Diversity Overview;
• De-Escalation and Minimizing Use of Force;
• Ethics in Law Enforcement;
• Hate Crimes Training for Law Enforcement;
• Implicit Bias;
• Interacting with the Mentally Ill as a First Responder;
• Racial Profiling Part 1;
• Suspects in Medical Distress;
• Understanding and Responding to Excited Delirium Calls.
The McCracken County Sheriff Foundation is a non-profit organization is funded through private donations and maintains funds separate from the McCracken County Sheriff's Office.
