A new scam is being reported in the Paducah-McCracken County area.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, a local resident received a call from a phone number in the 855 area code from a person who said they were with Dish Network.

Since the resident did subscribe to Dish Network, and the caller had information about them, it seemed to be a legitimate call. The caller had the resident do a series of "system tests" with the TV remote control, and then said the tests were not working.

The caller said that for $180.00, they would be able to fix the "problem."

The resident called the real Dish Network and learned that it was a scam.

The Sheriff's Department reminds everyone to be extremely careful, especially when callers request money over the telephone.
