Progress Continues on Greenway Trail Tunnel

Work is progressing on the tunnel for the Greenway trail.

Workers were busy moving earth back into place around the tunnel Friday morning.

The tunnel will connect two sections of the trail, which will stretch a combined 4.6 miles.

Since this tunnel goes under U.S. Highway 45 as it approaches the Brookport Bridge, that bridge will remain closed until work is complete.

Drivers should use I-24 to travel between southern Illinois and Kentucky.

Work is scheduled to be completed by July 28, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said Friday that a repair job on the bridge is taking longer than expected, so the bridge probably won't open until around August 4.
