Students at several area schools participated in the nationwide student walkout on Wednesday, remembering the 17 victims of Marjory Douglas Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida, while also expressing their desire for safer schools.

About 3,000 schools participated in the walkout at 10 am, demonstrating for 17 minutes, one minute for each victim in Florida.

Students at Marshall County High School participated in Draffenville, while 40 of their classmates went to the state capital to participate in another demonstration.

Students at McCracken County and Graves County High School walked out of class, too. Students spoke to those who were gathered to encourage them to take a stand against violence.

At Graves County, while one group released 17 balloons outside, another group of students chose to go to the Eagle's Nest gymnasium and pray. They divided into groups to pray for each of the victims' families.

If you have photos from other area schools, you can send them to news@wkyx.com and we'll add them to this slideshow.
