The American Quilter's Society Fall QuiltWeek will open Wednesday in Paducah.

This year marks the 35th anniversary since the AQS was founded. Since its inception, QuiltWeek has grown from humble beginnings, to include an average of more than 40,000 visitors.

Event organizers have recruited a pastry chef this time around who has been featured on TLC's Cake Boss to create the world's largest quilt cake. The show's executive director Bonnie Browning says Mauro Castano will be at QuiltWeek Thursday for a meet and greet from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.

As for the contest, a panel of three professional quilt judges will select the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention quilts in each of the 15 categories in the contest. The top seven winners will be determined by popular vote, which took place online between noon on Monday and noon on Tuesday.

The winners in the AQS Quilt Contest will be honored at the Quilter’s Gala Featuring Victoria Findlay Wolfe Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Walker Hall Events Center, 229 Madison Street.

The Janome America Best of Show and five other winning quilts will be available for viewing in the Winners Gallery in the Schroeder Expo Center, and the Gammill Quilting Machines Best Wall Quilt will be displayed in the River Rooms on the second floor of the Carroll Convention Center.

QuiltWeek is set to take place from September 11-14 in the Schroeder Expo Center.
