A Paducah teen faces assault charges, after police say he stabbed another teen several times during a fight.

According to Paducah police, 19-year-old Patrick Bumphus and 19-year-old Bobby Staples, both of Paducah, got into a fight at Superway on Jackson St., just after 7:00 pm Sunday. During the fight, Bumphus reportedly pulled a pocketknife and stabbed Staples several times in the back.

Police said both men left the scene.

About 15 minutes later police were called to a home on Trimble Street, where Staples had gone after the incident. Staples later sought medical treatment at Baptist Health Paducah.

During questioning late Sunday night, police said Bumphus admitted to stabbing Staples.

Bumphus was charged with first-degree assault and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
