Paducah Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Greene announced his resignation at Monday's Board of Education meeting.

Dr. Greene has served as district superintendent for 10 years. His resignation is effective June 30, 2014.

“After ten wonderful years of living in this community and working with the members of the Board of Education and the staff of this school system, the decision to leave has not come easily,” Dr. Greene said in his remarks. “However, I believe that it is time to move on. Change can be good. It keeps us on our toes, excited about our work and growing as individuals.

"Greene said that he and his wife are currently exploring several opportunities and have not made a decision yet as to which option to pursue.

“It is my hope that the transition will be a smooth one and Paducah Public Schools will continue to strive for excellence, always putting students first and foremost in the years ahead,” Greene said. “I  have the utmost confidence that in the hands of this fine Board of Education and these dedicated administrators, teachers, and support staff who serve so faithfully, the rich legacy of academic excellence, tradition and pride which has existed since 1864 will continue to bless and enrich the community of Paducah."

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Dr. Greene.  The board is certainly sad to see him go,” said Board of Education chair Danette Humphrey.  “He has gone above and beyond the call of duty in attending school events and supporting our students both here and all across the state.  Dr. Greene has kept academics as a top priority for the district and has worked to raise our attendance rate, which was 13th in the state last year. He did what was needed to get the money needed for the Morgan addition, renovations to McNabb, PTHS, and Clark, and a new middle school.”

Humphrey said that the board will form a search committee which will review the results of a nationwide search.  The committee will forward the results of its search to the board, which will then select candidates to interview.   The goal will be to have potential candidates submitted to the board by mid-April 2014.

The board hopes to name a new superintendent in May 2014. “Dr. Greene is leaving our district in better shape than he found it academically, aesthetically, and financially,” said Humphrey. “ I don’t think you can ask for anything better than that.”
