Paducah Police officers were honored for their military service with Quilts of Valor (QOV).

According to the Paducah Police Department, on January 14 at a ceremony hosted by the National Quilt Museum, nine Paducah Police officers were honored with Quilts of Valor.

The Quilts of valor foundation was created in 2003 by Catherine Roberts after receiving the idea from a dream.

According to Roberts, "the dream was as vivid as real life. I saw a young man sitting on the side of his bed in the middle of the night, hunched over. The permeating feeling was one of utter despair. I could see his war demons clustered around, dragging him down into an emotional gutter. Then, as if viewing a movie, I saw him in the next scene wrapped in a quilt. His whole demeanor changed from one of despair to one of hope and wellbeing. The quilt had made this dramatic change. The message of my dream was that quilts equal healing." Roberts Continued, " The model appeared simple: have a volunteer team who would donate their time and materials to make a quilt. One person would piece the top and the other would quilt it. I saw the name for this special quilt. It was a Quilt of Valor."

QOV has grown into a national movement, where the quilts are hand-made by volunteers across the country, which are then donated, to be given to veterans to honor their service.

The following Paducah Police officers received Quilts of Valor at the ceremony:

• Officer Eric Abbott
• Officer Travis Counts
• Captain Chris Baxter
• Detective Blake Quinn
• Detective Kevin Wilson
• Officer Will Hendrickson
• Captain Joe Hayes
• Sergeant Nathan Antonites
• Captain Wes Orazine.
