A Paducah man who suffered a heart attack while in Louisiana is now in his hometown hospital.

Don Alvey and his wife Judy were flown to Barkley Regional Airport from Monroe, LA Thursday evening. The medical flight brought them from Glenwood Regional Medical Center after Alvey was stabilized enough to travel. The flight crew said the trip was uneventful, and took about an hour and 20 minutes.

Don Alvey was sitting upright on the gurney when it was lowered to the ground and taken to the ambulance. He waved to his son, Ron, who was on the tarmac to greet his parents. Ron, who works for Bristol Broadcasting (owner of WKYX and WestKentuckyStar), then followed the ambulance to Baptist Health Paducah.

Don Alvey had the heart attack while eating at a restaurant in West Monroe, as the couple was driving to Paducah from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Alvey is battling leukemia.
