A Paducah man was charged with attempting to have sexual contact with a child in southern Illinois.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Fairview Heights says FBI agents arrested 41-year-old Kenneth White of Paducah on June 9, after an investigation revealed White had attempted to engage in sexual activity with a minor.

White's arrest was the result of an undercover sting operation during which agents say he was made to believe he would be meeting with a 10-year-old girl to have sex.

White is charged with a single count of traveling across state lines with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

His next court appearance has been set for July 8 at the Federal Courthouse in Benton.

White is the owner of two Paducah restaurants, Ken's Place and Gold Rush Cafe. He is currently free on bond.
