A Paducah man faces drug and illegal hunting charges after deputies responded to a home to investigate a report about a possible assault.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office says dispatchers got a 911 call on Friday from a passerby who said she had been stopped on the roadway near a home in the 4400 block of Coleman Cut Road by a distraught woman, who told her a man was trying to assault her and she needed help. The passerby reportedly saw a man carrying a tire iron before leaving the area.

Deputies responded to the home and were unable to locate anyone on the property or get an answer at the door. They reportedly saw a hen turkey that had been harvested laying on a UTV that was sitting in the yard. Deputies got a search warrant, and found methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia inside the home. They also found and seized 39 firearms.

An arrest warrant was issued for the resident, 57-year-old Kent Kanter of Paducah. Kanter later turned himself in to deputies. He is charged with firearm enhanced possession of meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife charged Kanter with multiple offenses relating to the illegal harvest of the hen turkey.

The woman that had asked for 911 to be dialed was found unharmed. The investigation into the disturbance is ongoing.
