A Paducah man has been arrested and charged with abusing a five-year-old child.

According to paducah Police, 28-year-old Dustin Gorham was arrested Monday afternoon at the police department. Detectives said Department of Child-Based Services representatives called police last Thursday about a child who appeared to have been abused. Officials at the child’s school had initially reported bruising to the child’s face and head.

After detectives interviewed the child and the mother, they determined that Gorham, the child’s father, had hit the boy in the head. Police said they learned about a similar, previous incident that occurred on May 1, 2015.  The victim did not receive medical treatment either time.

Gorham is charged with two counts of 2nd degree criminal abuse. He was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.

Police said they later learned that Gorham was convicted of abusing a 7-month-old child in 2006.
