Iron Mom Runners Take To Paducah Streets Today
By West Kentucky Star Staff
PADUCAH, KY - About a thousand runners from across the region and several states will converge on Paducah's downtown riverfront Saturday morning to take part in the annual Iron Mom Half Marathon & Relay. Even if you're not participating, your Saturday morning drive could be affected.

The race will start at 7 am near the flood wall at Jefferson Street in downtown Paducah, and finish there later in the morning. The 13-mile course will wind through several neighborhoods, including Jefferson Street, the Greenway Trail, the Pines neighborhood, Greenway Trail, Noble Park, Madison Street and Lower Town.

Traffic disruptions should be expected on Jefferson between 7 - 8 am, on 32nd Street and the Pines area between 7:15 - 9 am, on the Greenway Trail and in Noble Park between 7:45 - 10 am, and on North 25 and 26th Streets and Madison Street between 7 - 11 am.

Drivers on Park Avenue, 3rd Street and 4th Street should also expect delays as traffic will briefly be stopped to let runners safely cross. Crossings for Park Avenue are at County Park Road and at North 26th Street. Crossings at 3rd and 4th Streets will be at the intersection with Madison Street.

Hundreds of volunteers, law enforcement and traffic control personnel will be at dozens of intersections and roadside stops to keep the runners safe from passing vehicles.

Back at the riverfront, awards will be handed out in various age groups for top teams and individual runners.

The annual event is presented by Lourdes Hospital.  Proceeds from the Iron Mom will benefit Family Service Society, a non-profit crisis resource center that provides Paducah/McCracken County residents assistance with basic needs such as food, clothing, prescription medications, emergency dental, utility assistance, personal hygiene items, household goods and Christmas food assistance.
